Our Every Day Carry (EDC) tools: Screwdrivers, waterproof lighter, stainless steel folding knife, and cash stash on a brass key ring. (
Every Day Carry, or EDC, generally refers to the things you carry every day. Simple enough, but there’s a philosophy behind it. At its the core, EDC is personally defined. You find and carry the things relevant to your own life. The idea is to keep it streamlined with an eye towards self-reliance — you want items that do the most, while taking up as little pocket space as possible.
There are different schools of thought for EDC. Some owners aim to be prepared for an unexpected crisis, others just need to be ready for a surprise presentation. Most of us fall somewhere in between.
This pocket-sized kit turns your keychain into a productive tool for tackling common tasks: putting a set of screwdrivers, a stainless steel folding knife, a waterproof lighter, and a cash stash all together on one brass keyring.
The screwdriver keys (one has a Phillips head, the other a flat head) are made of black oxide hardened steel and will take a door off its hinges just like any other screwdriver.
The waterproof lighter has an airtight seal, so water can get in, and no lighter fluid can get out. It's quick to light and always at hand. It stands up on its own and stays lit until you blow the flame out. Note that the lighter does not come filled with lighter fluid.
The stainless steel folding knife has a perforated handle and a polished, clip-point blade. The clip-point blade comes in handy to open small boxes, envelopes or packaging. To create these knives, raw stainless steel is cut with a laser machine in Maniago, Italy. The blade has an American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) grade of 420, meaning it is a hard, cutlery-level steel with a good resistance to the atmosphere, fresh water and mild acids.
The solid brass cash stash has a barrel and spindle to secure a storage of emergency money. Precision machined from a single bar of solid brass, each end of the barrels is finished with a rubber o-ring to create a waterproof seal. The cash stash holds one bill.
All these tools are collected on a U-shaped brass key ring, which is hand-formed in Brooklyn by a brass founder from a single piece of 1/8-inch brass wire. At two inches long and just over one inch wide, the small and minimal key ring has a high capacity and can accommodate over 20 keys. A convenient hook closure allows you to remove and attach keys or other items quickly and efficiently.
