Faribault Merino Wool Throw (Natural) - Kaufmann Mercantile

This throw blanket is made by storied American company Faribault Woolen Mill Co. from 100% Merino wool imported from Australia and New Zealand, countries known throughout the world for their Merino sheep. The unique broken twill weave creates a slightly zigzag pattern that adds texture and provides lightweight warmth. A rolled fringe trim lends a decorative touch that fits into any décor and adds a cozy touch to any room.

Faribault Woolen Mill Co. was founded in 1865 in Faribault, Minnesota, and they continue to operate their woolen mill from the same location. Over the course of their 150 year history, the mill has provided army issue woolen blankets to the United States during World War I and II; invented moth-proof wool in 1956 and washable wool in 1960; enacted policies to eliminate flammable blankets and worked to lower import duties to protect American wool businesses.

The process for creating these blankets begins with bales of raw wool from Australia and New Zealand, countries famous for their Merino sheep since the 1800s. After being thoroughly checked, the wool goes through several machine processes, including carding (wire brushing) and spinning. The spun yarn is then woven on a mechanized loom before being finished by hand.

Use & Care

Machine wash cold, separately, on a gentle cycle. A gentle cleaning agent designed for wool is recommended. Tumble dry low, removing promptly when dry. Line drying is also recommended, but take care to rotate the woolen to prevent stretching. Iron only on low, and only if necessary. Use fabric softener is not recommended, as it can increase pilling. Do not bleach.
