French Carbon Steel Steak Knives (Set of 6) - Kaufmann Mercantile

Crafted by a French family-run company in production since 1876, this set of six steak knives features carbon steel blades and handsome olive wood handles. Olive wood is prized throughout Europe for its rich and variegated graining pattern. The set comes in a beech wood box for storage, which helps to protect the blades for the long haul.

Carbon steel requires just a bit more maintenance than the standard stainless steel that most knives are fitted with these days, but the high level of carbon helps the blade to retain a sharper edge longer and better. Carbon blades are also more flexible than stainless steel, making these knives a handy tool for carving through everything from a piece of steak to a delicate tomato, while maintaining the natural membranes and textures of the food.

Use & Care

Hand washing is recommended to prolong the use and integrity of the knives, but they are also dishwasher safe.

To maintain the sheen on your knives and to prevent rust, wash and dry blades immediately after use. Spread a few drops of mineral oil or vegetable oil on the carbon steel blade and rub with a soft cloth or paper towel. Oiling regularly after each use will eventually create a protective coating on the blade and help to prevent rust and staining.

Store your steak knives in their protective beech wood box in a dry, cool area.
