Made from heat resistant glass, this clear glass mug is primed to hold your morning cup of coffee or afternoon tea. The clarity of the glass allows you to see whether or not you’ve added enough cream or when your tea is finished brewing. The glass is heat resistant up to 450°C (842°F), so feel free to pour your piping hot tea or coffee directly into the mug.

The glass cup is machine blown in order to achieve exact measurements and sizes while the handle is manually attached. They are both made with borosilicate glass, a strong material used in laboratories and kitchens due to its resistance to thermal expansion and shock.

Use & Care

The glass mug is safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher and can also be put in the freezer down to temperatures of -35°C (-31°F). Never heat the glass empty. Do not freeze liquids in the glass as this may cause the glassware to expand and break.

Although the borosilicate glass is thermal resistant, sudden changes in temperature may still cause a volatile expansion and shrinking that leads to cracking. Leave hot glassware to cool before storing in the refrigerator or freezer.

The pore-free surface cleans easily in the dishwasher or by hand, but avoid abrasives that will scratch the glass.

Production & Design

German inventor Otto Schott developed the first borosilicate glass in 1893 by adding boric oxide to the traditional glassmaker's cocktail of silicate sand, soda and ground lime. The new material was immediately marketed for laboratory and industrial use as well as for the home kitchen.

Trenglas Jena, a decade-old German company, continues to innovate upon that initial invention for the domestic market, and has been recognized with awards for product design.
