Heat-resistant glass tea pot with removable glass strainer. Spout design catches drips. Suitable for microwave and dishwasher. Holds roughly 40 ounces. Made in Germany. (
This tea pot is made of heat-resistant glass. The removable glass strainer allows you to steep tea directly inside the pot. Larger leaf tea is recommended (as a gauge: we found yerba mate is too fine and slips through the thin slits of the strainer). After you have brought water to a boil in a kettle or pot on the stovetop, it can be poured into the teapot so the tea can steep. The teapot should not be placed directly on a heatsource.
Made of borosilicate glass, the tea pot will accommodate temperatures up to 450°C (842°F). (You still need to be careful of the handle when picking up the teapot if the contents are still very hot.) Borosilicate glass is a strong material used in laboratories and kitchens due to its resistance to thermal expansion and shock. It is 17% lighter than aluminum – making pouring easier when hosting your next afternoon tea.
The glass body is machine blown in order to achieve exact measurements and sizes, while the spouts and handles are manually attached.
Place tea bag or loose tea (larger leaves are recommended rather than fine blends such as yerba mate) in the removable glass strainer. Pour hot water over the tea. Steep according to specific tea directions.
Although the borosilicate glass is thermal resistant, sudden changes in temperature may still cause volatile expansion and shrinking that leads to cracking. Leave hot glassware to cool before storing in the refrigerator or freezer.
The pore-free surface cleans easily in the dishwasher or by hand.
German inventor Otto Schott developed the first borosilicate glass in 1893 by adding boric oxide to the traditional glassmaker's cocktail of silicate sand, soda and ground lime. The new material was immediately marketed for laboratory and industrial use as well as for the home kitchen.
The decade-old German company that created this tea pot continues to expand upon that initial innovation for the domestic market, winning the iF product design award for 2013, a juried exhibition and awards ceremony mounted in 1953 by International Forum Design of Hannover, Germany.
