Copper garden trowel for soils that are hard-packed or rocky. Trowel blade and handle are bent and formed from a single reclaimed copper tube. Pointed tip and strong spine helps create leverage to penetrate difficult soils. Handcrafted in Australia. (
This garden trowel is handmade from a single tube of pure copper. Copper is an essential trace element that is naturally occurring in soil, so tools made from the metal enrich your garden and may even deter pests. Slugs and snails in particular are repelled by copper, as the metal reacts to their secretions and transmits an electric shock, sending them away from your garden bed.
The trowel’s pointed tip is designed to work through soils that are rocky, hard-packed, or have high clay levels. The strong copper spine creates leverage while planting bulbs, removing weeds, and unearthing small rocks.
Copper does not rust or corrode, though it may earn a unique patina over time. If desired, polish the copper to return the trowel to its original sheen. Learn more about caring for copper here.
Store the trowel inside in a dry place. If used and cared for correctly, it will last for many years.
Devoted gardener Travis Blandford crafts each of these trowels by hand in his Yarraville workshop, about 5 miles west of Melbourne, Australia. Blandford came across piles of copper tubes at construction sites and was inspired to find a way to re-use these materials. He collected the remnant copper and designed a line of gardening tools. Blandfored named his company Grafa, after the Old Norse word meaning “to dig.”
