Wood comb with handle. 7 inches total length, 4 inch handle. Made of locally harvested German ash wood. Cut and smoothed by hand in Germany by 4 generations of master comb makers. (
The feeling of a handmade comb is so different. The natural untreated, precision-cut fibers of wooden comb teeth gently move right through curly hair without pulling and stretching hair, or causing it to come alive with static electricity. The wood comb is great for a wet head, too. The slightly curved tips of the comb massage the scalp. Hair is healthy and lustrous, since wood doesn't strip natural oils from each strand.
This comb is handmade by four generations of comb makers in Germany. The family has used a 100 year old comb-cutting machine since they began. Each comb is worked smooth and ground between the teeth so they're rounded and free of fiber, and some teeth are conical for a good grip.
It isn't necessary to clean the comb, which is perfectly happy with the natural oils from the hair. But if you feel the need to clean it, use a little bit of soap and water. Be sure not to leave the comb submerged in water for too long.
Four generations of comb makers cut the teeth of these combs with a 120 year old comb-maker machine from England, using bone from South America. After each comb is cut, the teeth are mechanically cleaned to ensure very smooth, precise teeth. There is no wax or oil applied to finish the combs so the horn is as natural and fine as possible for the hair.
The company that's been making these horns since 1848 now operates on hydropower for electricity.
