Japanese cotton clutch with vegetable tanned leather bottom. The unique textile is stitched throughout for durability and textural intrigue. Brass zipper with supple leather pull and canvas lining. Made in Oregon. Also available in Indigo. (
The traditional stitched pattern on this cotton fabric clutch provides long-lasting durability as well as a unique textural design on the textile. Made from a Japanese fabric called Sashiko—meaning “little stabs”—the allover decorative sewing reinforces the cloth to prevent rips and tears. The vegetable tanned leather bottom and brass zippers add further strength. The brass zipper is set into a blue webbing that creates a striking contrast accent to the ivory colored textile. The interior of the clutch is lined with a light blue and cream rail stripe cotton canvas, and an outer tab stores essentials that you might want to keep on hand, such as a pen or keys.
Condition leather with a natural saddle soap if desired. The fabric will age nicely with use, but it can be spot cleaned with mild soap and a soft cloth if needed.
Based in Portland, Oregon and working with fabric sourced in Japan, business partners Dawn Yanagihara and Katsu Tanaka work to create long-lasting, heirloom items from high-quality Japanese textiles under their line Kirikomade. The fabrics used by Yanagihara and Tanaka to create their scarves, bandanas, quilts, bags, ties, hats and more are either vintage Japanese stock or new fabrics made on original looms by small, family-run factories in Japan. The Sashiko fabric for these clutches was created by a maker that sews Kendo martial arts jackets.
