Most pumice stones on the market are barely recognizable from their original native state - and many are artificial, often made of manufactured glass or other synthetic materials. These pumice stones are rocks, pure and simple, that have been gathered at the base of Mount Shasta in California. Their porous makeup and hewn surface, tumbled by snow, water and wind, create an optimal texture for smoothing rough feet, removing tough calluses—or even scrubbing grill grates or stained kitchen and bathroom tiles.

Use & Care

Callus removal:

Soak and lather feet well to soften skin. Wet stone. Find the smoothest rock face and scrub gently, increasing pressure as necessary, and using a back-and-forth motion as opposed to circular or random strokes. Rinse often to slough away dead skin. Remove thick calluses slowly over time and with several filing sessions. Finish with moisturizer.

Note: Do not use on inflamed skin or heel cracks. Stone use is not recommended for diabetics, hemophiliacs or anyone whose skin tends to go numb—it is important to gauge the use of the stone through the sensory nerves on the skin.

Household cleaning:

Unclog residue and buildup by soaking in hot soapy water. Scrub with a wire brush, rinsing often. Handle with care, as rock can fracture if dropped. Dry in the sun to purify, reenergize and restore your pumice stone.

Production & Design

Nature-lover and stone gatherer Stuart Ward has been collecting natural rocks from the base of Mount Shasta in California every summer for over 20 years. The snowfall and rainfall at the top of Mount Shasta causes the stones to roll down to the base of the mountain. The foamy structure of the stones in that area has a thicker makeup than other natural or manufactured pumice stones, creating a more durable and effective product.
