This perpetual calendar will save you from the throwaway calendars of yesteryear. The rich materials and the physical act of changing the date helps to ensure that every day is thoughtfully considered. Designed by Sallyann Corn and Joseph Kent, this calendar is inspired by the abacus. The beads are made from unglazed, slip cast porcelain, creating a highly tactile feel against your fingers when you slide each bead against the next along the brass rods. The Maplewood frame of the calendar is fabricated in Maine.

Use & Care

The top row of beads indicate the months of January through December. The wider left column denotes weekdays, Monday through Friday, and the right column marks weekends, Saturday and Sunday. The calendar is read from top to bottom, left to right.

Starting with all of the beads slid over to the right, move month beads to the left to indicate current month. The brass marker is used to indicate the first day of the month and is used in the Monday-Friday column. Place brass marker in front of the first day of the month. After the marker, slide one bead over to the left to count each day.

Production & Design

Sallyann Corn and Joseph Kent founded their studio, Fruitsuper Design, in 2008. They are both industrial designers who are also inspired by books, food, museums and travel. Their designs seek to obtain equilibrium in simplicity, such as with this perpetual calendar, which can be used year after year, and helps to honor every day that passes through the ritual of sliding each porcelain bead.
