Designed in collaboration with master whisky blenders specifically for the enjoyment of Scotch whisky. Admire the color and body in the wide crystal bowl. Tapered rim captures and focuses the scent of the liquor on the nose. Made in the United Kingdom. Comes as a set of 2. (
These iconic glasses can be found in almost every bar and distillery across the United Kingdom, and for good reason. The shape of the glass was designed in conjunction with Master Blenders of the whisky industry (an expert that decides on the composition of liquor and tasked with maintaining consistency over the course of time) for a true appreciation of the spirit. The wide crystal bowl provides a clear view for taking in the color and body of the whisky. The tapering, tulip shape focuses the scent of the spirit right on the rose. The overall shape is ergonomic and comfortable in the hand, allowing the drinker to slowly enjoy the whisky as the flavor develops. This comes as a set of two glasses.
Like a glass of wine, a good whisky should be slowly and thoughtfully enjoyed. Here are the 5 steps to appreciating Scotch Whisky according to the Scotch Whisky Heritage Center:
(1) Color: Is your whisky light gold, bright copper or rich amber in color?
(2) Body: Does your whisky have a light, medium or full body?
(3) Nose: Which aromas do you recognize when you smell your whisky—is it malty, smoky, fruity, or chocolately?
(4) Palate: What characteristics do you notice on the palate—is it softly sweet, rich and fruity, or peppery and spicy?
(5) Finish: Does the flavor remain for a long time or does it disappear quickly?
Owner and Scotsman Raymond Davidson invented the Glencairn whisky glass in 1980 when he realized that the complicated flavor of whisky required a more suitable glass to bring out its distinct characteristics. It wasn’t until 20 years later that Davidson began to collaborate with master whisky blenders to perfect the glass and make it available to the discerning whisky drinker. In 2006, Glencairn won the Queen’s Award for Innovation, an important accolade announced each year on the monarch’s birthday. Today, these iconic glasses can be found in almost every bar and distillery across the United Kingdom.
