Hand-carved and -turned by a former architect, these simple bowls celebrate the natural color, texture and character of local wood from Berkeley, California, and the surrounding Bay area. The bowls nest together for tidy storage or as streamlined display on your shelf. Sold individually in small, medium and large, or as a set of three.

Each bowl is completely carved by hand with the aid of a wood lathe. After carving and sanding, each piece receives two to three coats of mineral oil. A final coat of beeswax is applied to naturally protect the wood.

Use & Care

Hand wash only with water and a very small amount of natural soap chemical soaps will strip the wood of its natural moisture. Do not allow bowls to sit in water for long periods of time, and oil the bowls as often as possible.

If they are being washed constantly when still new, they should be conditioned (rubbed) with walnut oil or mineral oil after every use. Eventually, the surface of the wood will develop a natural patina that protects against moisture, and will need to be oiled less frequently.

Production & Design

Former architect-turned-woodmaker, Silvia Song was born in Sao Paolo, Brazil, raised in Los Angeles, California, and now lives and works in the Bay area creating handmade wood bowls, butcher blocks, walnut coffee drippers and custom orders out of her garage studio. She has received showcases at both the Los Angeles and San Francisco outposts of historic artisan pottery manufacturer Heath Ceramics, and regularly teaches classes to legions of aspiring woodworkers in San Francisco.
