Portable kerosene lamp for tabletop illumination. Polished brass burner with flat cotton wick. Adjustable lever controls height of wick and flame. Glass tube protects flame. Made in Sweden since 1884. Dome Base also available. (
Founded in 1884, this Swedish lighting company is dedicated to creating lamp fixtures and lighting that are faithful to the designs and manufacturing processes of the 1880s through to the 1930s. Their products are made with original machines from the time period.
This small brass lamp is designed after the handheld candlesticks and kerosene lamps of the late 19th century, before the use of electricity. It is decorated with traditional metalwork and decorative filigree. The brass is polished to a sheen, while a glass tube protects the cotton wick and flame when lit. An adjustable lever on the side of the brass lamp allows you to control the height of the wick and therefore the flame, from a subtle glow to a stronger light.
For best results, high quality kerosene is recommended in these lamps. If pure kerosene is used, a little soot and smell will be produced. Always keep kerosene in the oil vessel and keep the cloth wick soaked with kerosene at all times, even when not in use. If a moist wick is maintained, your lamp, including its wick, should last a lifetime (the wick doesn’t burn; only the kerosene).
It is important to keep the wick just above the edge of the brass burner. If the wick is too high the flame will reach an undesired height, which creates soot in the glass tube that will burn the wick.
The lamp can be cleaned by using a damp cloth. The glass tube can be washed in water and a mild detergent. The brass is not varnished and should only be polished with brass cleaner and not water, as water will leave streaks and marks.
Based in Karlskrona, in the southern tip of Sweden, this lighting company is run by a husband-wife team that continues to carry on the family business begun by their ancestors 130 years ago. Their entire catalogue is based on designs from the 1880s to the 1930s, and the products are made with original machinery that has been with the company since its founding. Around 12 workers are involved in the manufacture of their products, and no computerized or automated machines are used.
