Polished brass hand bell with carved solid oak handle. A modern reinterpretation of the early 19th-century school bell. For use at weddings, meetings, or to call family and friends to the dinner table. Made in Sweden by a 400-year-old brass foundry. (
The clear, resonating sound of this brass hand bell rings true during times when a digital tone just won’t do. Designed by an award-winning Swedish designer and crafted by a 400-year-old foundry put in place in 1609 by King Charles IX of Sweden, the bell is a mix of old and new.
The design is inspired by early 19th-century school bells. The solid oak handle, carved with simple but appealing and modern curves, creates an updated aesthetic. Use the bell for toasts during a wedding or engagement party, or for your daily dinner call.
Keep wood handle dry and condition as necessary.
For the polished brass, use a mild metal polish and a soft cloth. Avoid contact with water.
Founded in 1609 by King Charles IX of Sweden, this brass foundry has been in operation for over 400 years in the same location. It is strategically headquartered in Skultuna—a locality about 75 miles west of Stockholm and famous for some of the oldest mines in the country—not far from copper mines (brass is formed from copper and zinc) and charcoal and water power. The foundry’s first products in the 17th-century were large chandeliers. Today, the company continues to polish and mount chandeliers, while also working with some of the most renowned contemporary product designers.
