Highly accurate, wood and metal bird call whistles handcrafted by a French birder. Comes in a set of six for Black Capped Chickadee, American Robin, Golden Plover, Long-billed Curlew, Mourning Dove and Black-billed Cuckoo. (
Years of observation and aural trial-and-error went into creating each one of these bird calls. The highly-accurate whistles are designed and crafted by François Morel, who has been an avid birder for over 50 years. The calls are handmade from long-lasting woods and metals in a small workshop in the French mountians, where Morel works alongside his daughter.
Every single whistle is thoroughly checked and tested for quality and accuracy by Morel before it is placed into its pine box. The pine boxes are ideal for displaying the whistles or keeping them safe and protected between uses. Each bird call has illustrated instructions for practicing and perfecting the whistle so you can summon feathered friends on morning and evening walks through the woods and fields. The calls can also be used to bring friends and family to attention when playing in the park or gathering for a picnic.
This set contains calls for the black capped chickadee, who sends a shrill stacatto whistle; the long billed curlew, who sounds off a clear, bursting trill; the American robin, who chirps quick high notes; the mourning dove, who sings a soft, low, two-tone lament; the American golden plover, who chants a bright refrain; and the black billed cuckoo, whose unique song takes a fair amount of whistling skill to master.
These bird call whistles are delightful to play with and experience, but they are not suitable for small children. Due to the realism of these whistles, they are not to be used to disturb nesting birds or to be utilized by hunters.
Store in a dry area and keep away from moisture. A little beeswax can be added to the calls if needed.
Francois Morel, now in his 60s, has been cultivating his talent for birding since he was a child growing up in the mountains of southern France, where there was ample opportunity to observe, listen and learn from the avian ecosystem.
His passive observation eventually developed into intentional interaction as he began experimenting with wood, leather, metals and any material that made sense in order to mimic various bird calls. His line of bird call whistles is extensive, including birds from Europe, Asia and North America.
