A study in both strength and style, this leather wallet is crafted from naturally tanned hide to age better than any money you may decide to keep in it. Made in Japan. (
These Roberu leather wallets are studies in both style and strength. Each is crafted from naturally tanned oil leather which will age beautifully over many years without losing its luster (or your small change). Segmented inside to separate coins, cards, and notes, what really makes these stand out from the crowd is their satisfying ergonomy—all smooth curves and nestled brass zippers—fitting snugly into a back pocket without jutting or poking.
These are a far cry from the wallets of history. In Ancient Greece the term “wallet” referred to a kind of travelers survival kit, stocked with food and supplies to be replenished at the first opportunity. They were large and in charge, and definitely no good for a night on the town.
It wasn’t until the Renaissance that the word began to denote a cash carrying vessel, but the term was still applicable to a wide variety of carrier bag as late as the early 20th century.
It was the postwar consumer boom of the fifties that led to a large scale uptake of the billfold we recognize today. People had more spare cash, for one thing. And the advent of the credit card only emphasized the need for a slim, pocket sized wallet.
The bi-fold and tri-fold designs that followed set the stage for mass production of wallets the world over, and helped create a demand for premium, hand-crafted wallets, sought after by a more discerning and fashion-conscious consumer. Enter Roberu.
These are the first pieces from their Spring/Summer Collection. They come in seven different colors: caramel, dark brown (suede), green, red, brown, black, and camel.
As with any natural leather product, avoid humidity and high temperature conditions. The leather can be cleaned of larger stains using a little soap and tepid water.
Roberu wallet production
Leather Factory Roberu has been crafting leather goods using natural tannins for four years. All skins are steeped in a proprietary tanning solution using only vegetable-derived tannins. They are then dried, cut to spec, and crafted into Roberu's signature goods. The vintage slider zippers are crafted by Waldes.
